The Eagle AXS™ rear derailleur is the heart of the entire AXS™ system and is far more than just a mechanical rear derailleur equipped with a rechargeable battery and motor. When properly adjusted, it shifts even more quietly and precisely, which also further increases its durability.
It features an aluminum cage that is 10 mm shorter and positioned further forward and inward than on the mechanical Eagle™, providing greater ground clearance and a wider cassette wrap. SRAM’s lab tests and real-world racing experience confirm it: consistently lag-free shifting with just one click, even under the chain tension of a World Cup winner.
And of course, this rear derailleur is also equipped with the proven X-HORIZON™ technology developed for 1x shifting. The lower, larger X-SYNC™ pulley with 14 teeth ensures sufficient capacity to handle a cassette with pinions ranging from 10 to 50 teeth. The rear derailleur’s design remains compact. It also ensures that you always pedal smoothly. The SRAM X01 Eagle AXS™ rear derailleur uses both a Type 3 Roller Bearing Clutch and an Overload Clutch. The Type 3 Roller Bearing Clutch is used to control cage movement and chain management. The overload clutch protects the rear derailleur’s motor in the event of an impact. The CAGE LOCK™ feature allows for easy maintenance. Thanks to the stainless steel screws, it offers excellent durability. 

A few words about the rechargeable battery

Yes, the Eagle AXS™ requires a rechargeable battery as its power source—one that can be easily removed for charging after about 20 hours of riding*. It weighs just 25 g and is secured with a single clip. If necessary, it can even be swapped out on the go and moved back and forth between components—from the rear derailleur to the Reverb AXS™ dropper seatpost or even to your SRAM RED eTap AXS™ road bike groupset. And it takes just one hour to fully charge.
