Soul in the Woods – the philosophy behind Maloja

Maloja was born from an unforgettable day in the Engadin mountains: in 2001, founders Peter Räuber and Klaus Haas found exactly what the name stands for today at the Maloja Pass in Switzerland – freedom, a connection to nature, and the joy of being outdoors. Three years later, in 2004, they founded the brand from a converted farmhouse in the Chiemgau region. The first collection was called "Soul in the Woods," and it's remained the brand's defining theme ever since. Maloja treats responsibility not as a trend but as a given: around 70% of products are made in Europe – at its own production facility, VioModa, in Bulgaria, as well as with long-standing partner factories in Portugal and Italy. About 90% of production partners have been on board since the company's founding.

Why Maloja stands out

With Maloja, you get cycling clothing that performs just as well on the trail as it does on a gravel ride – without ever feeling like a compromise.

  • Standout design: a new theme every season – distinctive prints that stand out on the bike.
  • Function & sustainability: bluesign®-certified materials and recycled fibers, developed for long rides.
  • Pro input: the PushbikersM. line is developed in close collaboration with the Maloja Pushbikers.

Maloja materials and technologies

Maloja develops its cycling clothing with a clear standard in mind: function and sustainability aren't opposites – each depends on the other. To get there, the brand relies on verified standards and carefully selected materials, from recycled synthetic fibers to natural raw materials like hemp. The result is clothing that performs on long rides and is designed with sustainability in mind, thanks to how it's made.

The bluesign® standard at Maloja

Maloja has been a system partner of bluesign® technologies since 2010. The standard is considered one of the strictest in the textile industry, auditing environmental impact, resource use, and workplace safety across the entire production chain – from raw material to finished jersey. For you, that means clothing made through a process you can actually trace.

Recycled materials in the bike collection

Several cycling clothing styles, including the TelvetM. bib and the MinorM. cycling shorts, are made from recycled materials. That closes the loop between Maloja's connection-to-nature brand value and how it actually shows up in the product: fewer virgin materials, the same functionality, the same fit.

Q-Skin® yarn in Maloja cycling socks

Maloja cycling socks like the EichhamM. use Q-Skin® yarn, a fiber structure that keeps feet feeling fresh in both wet and warm conditions. The fine construction pairs fast moisture-wicking with the distinctive Maloja look – a look the brand carries through to every detail.

Polygiene StayFresh™ treatment

Several Maloja models, including the PushbikersM. aero jersey, are treated with Polygiene StayFresh™. The technology uses natural silver salt and permanently reduces bacterial odor without coating the fabric. That extends wear time between washes and is gentler on both the fibers and the environment.

S.A.T. damping in Maloja cycling shorts

Models like the OmbergM. women's cycling shorts feature a seat pad with S.A.T. damping. The system absorbs vibration on long rides and takes pressure off the sensitive sit bones – a difference you can really feel on gravel and rough surfaces. Combined with the Speed Ergo Eco Breeze pad, the model is anatomically tailored to female sit-bone geometry.

Frequently asked questions about Maloja

How is Maloja different from other cycling clothing brands?

At the same time, the clothing meets technical requirements for road, gravel, and MTB, backed by verified material standards like bluesign® and Polygiene StayFresh™.

Which Maloja models are built for long gravel rides?

For long gravel rides, we recommend the StagiasM. gravel shorts or the TelvetM. bib for men, along with the OmbergM. women's cycling shorts – all with seat pads built for long days in the saddle. The SpiazzoM. gravel jersey for men pairs well with these, designed for breathability and freedom of movement.
