Road cycling has never been this much fun! The Dual Control levers in the Ultegra series not only stand out for their optimized ergonomics and even more precise modulation of the hydraulic disc brakes, but also impress with lightning-fast gear changes that are achieved in no small part by their wireless functionality.

The wireless connection also offers another advantage: without electrical cables, installation is easier and the cockpit looks tidier. Nevertheless, the shift/brake levers still offer a port for using additional shifters in the drops or the top of the handlebar. Numerous customisation and configuration options are provided by compatibility with the improved E-Tube Project app allowing you to adjust shifting modes (Synchro/Semi-Synchro Shift, Multi-Shift), shifting speed, and button assignments while riding, like on previous versions.

To ensure that braking performance is in no way inferior to shifting performance, the Ultegra ST-R8171 levers feature the SERVOWAVE technology. With an extended braking control range, this technology ensures excellent modulation, offering optimal comfort and control even under challenging conditions. For individual customization, the brake levers naturally also offer the option to adjust grip width and free travel.

Dual Control Lever (DCL) | The Shimano DCL levers combine braking and shifting functions in one control unit for easy as well as comfortable operation. In raising the standard of performance, their innovative ergonomics are even more important to consider than adding additional gearing. However, the highlight of the STI shifters (Shimano Total Integration) shifters, is the ability to change gears front and rear with just one finger. The Dual Control levers owe this not only to an extremely precise and smooth operation, but also to the same stability for which Shimano's MTB technologies are already known.

Synchronized Shifting | Shimano’s Synchro-Shift technology greatly simplifies shifting and significantly reduces the number of decisions you need to make while riding. The system always selects the optimal next-higher or next-lower gear combination, regardless of whether the shift is made at the rear derailleur and/or the front derailleur. In addition to the conventional manual mode, in which the front and rear derailleurs are controlled independently of one another, Synchro-Shift offers two additional modes:

• Full Synchro-Shift. The front derailleur responds to the shifting operations the rider performs on the rear derailleur. Essentially, this means that only one shift lever with two switches is needed to operate both the rear and front derailleurs.

• Semi Synchro-Shift. The rear derailleur responds to the shifting operations the rider performs on the front derailleur. In doing so, the rear derailleur automatically performs the necessary compensatory shifts for small changes in cadence when shifting up or down on the front derailleur.

SERVOWAVE | Because the brake lever absorbs a lot of brake travel right at the beginning of its movement, the brake pads come into contact with the brake disc more quickly and more lever travel remains for modulating the braking force. Accordingly, SERVOWAVE brake systems are characterized by faster response, higher performance and shorter idle travel.
