SPD-SLR – Engineered As One

Shimano designs its road bike shoes, pedals and cleats as a perfectly coordinated system. The next generation embodies this philosophy by ensuring a seamless connection between the shoe and the pedal. With no play or wobble, every watt goes exactly where it is supposed to. Better synergy through absolute stability. The result: even more direct power transfer. But that is not the only advantage of SPD-SLR technology. Riders also benefit from:

• A lower profile for greater stability and efficiency while pedaling. The feet are positioned 2.3 mm closer to the pedal axle.
• A weight reduction of up to 25 % compared to the SPD-SL system, thanks to the elimination of spacers (applies to the CL-SL100, CL-SL110, and CL-SL120 cleat models).
• Easier entry thanks to a wider clip-in zone and a narrower clip-in angle (10.9° compared to 15.5° for SPD-SL). Faster and more intuitive.
• More precise cleat positioning using high-contrast alignment marks which allow for lateral and rotational fine-tuning.

To ensure the greatest possible adaptability to different riding styles and requirements, Shimano offers four different cleat variants for the SPD-SLR platform. The models differ primarily in terms of freedom of movement and possible foot positioning. In addition, the thinner rear section allows for more comfortable walking in road bike shoes.

The grey CL-SL130 cleats offer an expanded mounting and setting range. This means they can also be used with shoes that feature a fixed three-point interface which normally does not allow for adjustment directly on the shoe. Total range of motion: 6°. Central pivot point, rotation of 3° in each direction (left/right).

Important notes: The SPD-SLR cleats are compatible with SPD-SL shoes. However, the system’s full benefits are only realized when the shoes, cleats and pedals all feature SPD-SLR technology. The SPD-SLR cleats are not suitable for use with SPD-SL pedals.
