Technological progress must prove itself in practice. A bike, in particular, should be simple. Elegance means doing away with everything superfluous. That is progress, and SRAM’s guiding principle for its first electronic shifting system, the SRAM RED eTAP.
With eTAP electronics, cycling reaches a new level: flawless and reliable shifting even under the toughest conditions. Not only does eTAP operate completely wirelessly, but it also features shifting logic proven in Formula 1—a level of sophistication never before achieved in electronic or mechanical bicycle drivetrains. Mis-shifting is virtually impossible.
eTAP’s algorithm-based encoding would do credit to any payment system. This completely eliminates interference from other electronic devices. The SRAM RED served as the benchmark for its extremely low total weight. Like its top-of-the-line mechanical counterpart, its electronic counterpart is built to prove itself in races.
SRAM’s eTAP is a powerhouse. Its batteries are lightweight, fast to charge, removable, and mounted on the front derailleur and rear derailleur. With no cables, installation is a breeze.
SRAM has put eTAP through its paces in WorldTour races. It’s now ready to take the cycling world by storm. The cycling world has waited long enough for real progress. SRAM RED eTAP. Are you ready to shift into higher gears?
To help you take full advantage of the various grip positions on your road bike handlebars—even while shifting—SRAM has developed the RED eTAP Blips. You can install two of these shift controls per shift lever on each side of the handlebars. No additional hardware is needed to connect the Blips. The Blips are simply attached under the handlebar tape. Since the handlebar tape doesn’t need to be specially cut for this, the aesthetics of your cockpit remain clean and uncluttered.
Whether you’re accelerating for the final sprint or climbing a pass, whether you’re cruising at a steady pace or tapping into your last reserves of energy, a single press of a button is all it takes to shift gears. With the eTAP Blips, you can shift whenever and wherever you want. Bikes with time trial handlebars can be equipped with the BlipBox control module.
Wireless shifting, battery power management, and mechatronics—RED eTAP technology serves one goal: to offer you the most intuitive operation possible. We call the shifting logic behind it eTAP. The right lever shifts into the larger gear, the left into the smaller gear. You can control the chainrings using both levers. Simple, smooth, and intuitive.
eTAP transmits shifting signals using 128-bit encryption via SRAM’s proprietary wireless protocol, AIREA. When an eTAP groupset is configured, a new encryption code is generated each time and assigned to the individual components. This ensures interference-free shifting.
Compatibility: Compatible only with SRAM eTap / eTap AXS front derailleurs and rear derailleurs. Not compatible with shifting components from other manufacturers.
