This is vitamin D in plant-based capsules, in the form of cholecalciferol. It is the only vitamin that our skin synthesizes with the help of sunlight. In our part of the world, it is often in short supply during the winter months. Vitamin D in its most bioavailable form, cholecalciferol, occurs in nature almost exclusively in animal sources. Compared to D2, the common plant-based form, it is 87% more bioavailable. Vilgain’s version of the vitamin, Vitashine, is derived from sustainably harvested lichen and is chemically identical to the animal-derived form of vitamin D3. It was once thought that vitamin D was necessary only for healthy bone development and for the prevention of rickets. Today, however, we know that vitamin D supports many other aspects of human health. Vitamin D deficiency is relatively common in the general population and may be linked to low dietary intake or limited sun exposure. This product contains an amount that covers more than 100% of the recommended daily intake.

Who needs vitamin D supplementation the most?

Vitamin D deficiency is a modern epidemic caused primarily by a shift from outdoor activities in the sun to indoor activities and by lower levels of vitamin D in the diet. Foods often contain ingredients grown in poor, depleted soils that cannot produce sufficient micronutrients such as vitamin D. Under certain conditions, vitamin D deficiency can be even more acute.

Directions

Take 1 capsule daily with a meal, preferably in the morning with a meal containing fat.
