The new SRAM RED represents the pinnacle of road bike technology and offers numerous performance advantages for both professionals and recreational riders. In 2012, the new SRAM RED groupset from the leading provider of lightweight construction, flawless shifting, and ergonomics continues the SRAM tradition with a fantastic design. How has SRAM further improved the world’s best road bike groupset? SRAM’s developers drew on their collective expertise and then redesigned the drivetrain from the ground up. Every component was engineered with two goals in mind: no unnecessary parts and unparalleled performance. As elegant as it is simple, the SRAM RED groupset perfects the riding experience through pure innovation.
The new SRAM RED ErgoDynamics™ brake-shift levers are SRAM’s best idea yet for optimizing the contact points between rider and bike. SRAM has thoroughly examined everything—the transition between the handlebars and the grip tape, the grip texture, the finger grip width, and the respective contact points with both the shift and brake levers. The result is an extremely comfortable, highly personalized fit, making the shifters feel like a natural extension of the rider.
The ErgoDynamics™ design features three distinct elements and will significantly enhance the riding experience with SRAM DoubleTap levers: TheErgoBlade carbon brake lever has a slightly longer length than previous DoubleTap levers, making it easier to reach from the lower handlebar grips. The texturedErgoFit body features a completely new design with a smaller diameter; thanks to its improved shape, it offers better control and a more secure grip, and ensures a smoother transition to the handlebars. Theindividual reach adjustment for the brake and shift levers is now even easier to access using a standard Allen wrench, and the brake-shift levers can be quickly and easily adjusted to fit any hand size. The new clamp design allows for a better fit and adjustment on modern carbon and ergonomic handlebars.
DoubleTap® is SRAM’s key technology that replaces traditional designs. The combination of brake and shift levers has not proven effective. SRAM brake-shift levers feature a brake lever that brakes and a shift lever that shifts.
DoubleTap® shifts faster and more easily. There is only one direction of movement. To shift up, a quick tap is all it takes. To shift to a lower gear, simply push the lever further.
The ingenious aspect of DoubleTap® technology is the consistent direction of movement of the shift lever. With a short, quick tap, the transport pawl moves the ratchet wheel upward through the shifting range. To shift to a lower gear, the lever is moved a greater length. As it does so, the detent and transport pawls engage quickly and cleanly. The nearly linear movement of the DoubleTap® levers offers yet another advantage. The shift lever can be operated from virtually any grip position. What’s unique is that the shift lever can be pulled toward the handlebars just like the trigger of a pistol! You can shift up while sprinting without releasing your grip on the handlebars.
The efficient, ergonomic design saves weight while offering greater comfort. You can shift even while sprinting, which gives you a decisive advantage—not just in competition. SRAM’s single-lever mechanism also enables faster and more precise shifting without having to adjust your grips on the handlebars. DoubleTap® is the new way to shift—and to think: Make the leap.
ZeroLoss stands for “zero loss.” When the lever is activated to shift up or down a gear, the cable is released immediately, ensuring zero loss of movement. There is no more delay before the gear engages. The gear change is immediate and precise.
