Discover Campagnolo Ekar groupsets at BIKE24

The Campagnolo Ekar groupset takes a straightforward approach to gravel riding: one chainring, 13 mechanically shifted gears and hydraulic disc brakes, all designed to work together. No front derailleur or battery to worry about. Instead, you get direct shifting, secure chain retention and a wide range of gearing options. Fine-tune your setup for everything from fast all-road rides to long gravel adventures with steep climbs. The original Ekar prioritizes low weight and a narrower Q-factor, while the Ekar GT gives you more flexibility in gearing and lever ergonomics.

Why choose Campagnolo Ekar?

Ekar keeps your drivetrain simple without limiting your gearing options.

  • 1x13 drivetrain with a 9-tooth sprocket: Delivers a wide gear range with a single chainring.
  • Secure chain retention on rough terrain: A clutch-equipped rear derailleur and specially designed tooth profile help keep the chain in place.
  • Direct mechanical shifting: Ergopower levers translate every shift into an immediate response from the rear derailleur.

Campagnolo Ekar and Ekar GT at a glance

Both Ekar and Ekar GT use a mechanical 1x13 drivetrain, but each has its own strengths. The key differences come down to climbing gears, crankset material and Q-factor.

Campagnolo Ekar

The original Ekar keeps your gravel setup lightweight and compact. Three cassette options let you tailor your gearing to fast all-road rides or more demanding gravel routes. The carbon crankset saves weight, while the narrow Q-factor keeps your pedal stance close to that of a performance road bike.

  • Crankset: UD carbon, 165 to 175 mm, chainrings with 38 to 44 teeth
  • Rear derailleur: Compatible with cassettes up to 44 teeth
  • Cassette options: 9–36, 9–42 or 10–44
  • Q-factor: 145.5 mm

Campagnolo Ekar GT

Ekar GT gives you more gearing options for steep climbs and long-distance rides. A 36-tooth chainring and 10–48 cassette provide easier climbing gears, while the Ergopower levers offer greater reach adjustment to suit your hands. The aluminum crankset has a slightly wider 151 mm Q-factor compared with the original Ekar.

  • Crankset: Aluminum, 170 to 175 mm, chainrings with 36 to 44 teeth
  • Rear derailleur: Compatible with cassettes up to 48 teeth
  • Cassette options: 9–42, 10–44 or 10–48
  • Q-factor: 151 mm

Campagnolo Ekar technologies

Ekar brings together the cassette, freehub body, rear derailleur and Ergopower levers in a fully integrated mechanical 1x13 system. Campagnolo's proprietary technologies combine a wide gear range with direct shifting and reliable performance across changing terrain.

The 9-tooth sprocket and N3W freehub

Fitting 13 sprockets onto a cassette takes some clever engineering. Campagnolo makes it possible with a 9-tooth smallest sprocket and a shorter freehub body. Ekar requires this N3W freehub, which also accepts existing Campagnolo 11- and 12-speed cassettes with an adapter kit. That means you get a wide gear range without having to retire your spare wheelset.

Ultra-Shift: three gears in one shift

The lever behind the brake lever lets you shift up to three gears into easier ratios in a single movement. The thumb lever shifts one gear at a time into harder ratios. With a dedicated lever for each direction, you can make precise shifts even when the trail gets rough. Campagnolo's Lever 3 thumb lever plays a key role here. Its wide C-shaped design stays within easy reach, whatever your hand position on the bars.

Pro-Tech: sealed against dust and water

Gravel riding means dust, spray and long days in the saddle. Pro-Tech bottom bracket cups feature an additional outer seal that helps keep dirt and moisture away from the bearings. The two-piece crank spindle also uses Campagnolo's Ultra-Torque design, with a Hirth joint connecting the two halves at the center. This lets you install the crankset without specialist tools and spend more time riding with fewer maintenance worries.
