Since 2018, the Continental Grand Prix 5000 has set the benchmark for high-performance road bike tires. And for good reason: few tires deliver such a strong balance of low rolling resistance, excellent grip and long-lasting durability. The four Continental GP 5000 tires cover everything your road cycling season throws at you – from long winter base miles on wet, rough roads to fast summer rides after work and race days where every second counts. Choose from a classic folding tire and three tubeless-ready, hookless-compatible tires in widths from 25 to 35 mm.

What makes Continental Grand Prix 5000 road bike tires stand out

The GP 5000 delivers its performance through a carefully engineered combination of rubber compounds, puncture protection, tire widths and tubeless options.

  • Advanced technologies: BlackChili compound delivers grip and low rolling resistance, while Vectran Breaker adds puncture protection.
  • Tire widths from 23 to 35 mm: Tubed and tubeless options for everything from summer rides to winter training miles.
  • Handmade in Germany: Every tire is handcrafted in Korbach, Hesse.

Continental Grand Prix 5000 tires at a glance

The right tire depends on how you ride. The classic GP 5000 folding tire is ideal for a traditional setup with inner tubes, while the S TR is the tubeless all-rounder for training and racing. The AllSeason TR offers the strongest puncture protection in the range, giving you extra confidence on training rides across different road surfaces and in all weather conditions. And when every watt counts, the TT TR delivers uncompromising race performance.

Continental Grand Prix 5000: the classic folding tire

Fit an inner tube, inflate and ride. The original GP 5000 keeps things simple: fix a flat and get back on the road. No sealant or fiddling with tubeless valves. It's a practical choice for training rides, everyday miles and wheelsets that aren't approved for tubeless use.

  • Available tire widths: 23, 25, 28, 30 and 32 mm
  • Wheel size: 28 inches or 650B (27.5 inches)

Grand Prix 5000 S TR: the tubeless all-rounder

The GP 5000 S TR is the go-to choice for many road cyclists. It replaced the GP 5000 TL in 2021, bringing lower weight, faster rolling and significantly tougher sidewalls. Running tubeless means you can use lower tire pressures for greater comfort without sacrificing speed. Now available in widths up to 35 mm, it's ready for long days on mixed road surfaces.

  • Available tire widths: 25, 28, 30, 32 and 35 mm
  • Wheel size: 28 inches or 650B (27.5 inches)
  • Reinforced sidewalls for protection against cuts

Grand Prix 5000 AllSeason TR: built for year-round riding

November. 4°C. Wet roads scattered with loose gravel. This is where the AllSeason TR comes into its own. Extra material beneath the tread boosts puncture protection, while improved grip at low temperatures keeps you confident on cold, wet roads. A reflective sidewall strip adds visibility in the dark. You'll barely notice the extra weight, but you'll appreciate the added protection.

  • Reinforced puncture protection for rough road surfaces
  • Available tire widths: 25, 28, 32 and 35 mm
  • Wheel size: 28 inches
  • Reflective sidewall strip

Grand Prix 5000 TT TR: maximum race performance

One tire, one purpose: minimum rolling resistance on race day. Continental removes material wherever it would cost you speed, creating the lightest TR tire in the range. The trade-off is reduced durability. Built for time trials, triathlons and criteriums, this is a dedicated race tire rather than a choice for everyday winter training. Now also available in a 30 mm width.

  • Available tire widths: 25, 28 and 30 mm
  • Wheel size: 28 inches
  • Thinnest tread in the range for minimum rolling resistance
  • Vectran Breaker puncture protection despite the lightweight construction

Continental Grand Prix 5000 technologies

Four technologies work together in every GP 5000 tire: a rubber compound that balances grip and low rolling resistance, a protective layer against cuts, a shoulder tread designed for cornering and an integrated layer that absorbs vibrations. The main differences between the tires lie in their casing construction and material thickness, not the technologies themselves.

BlackChili Compound

The rubber compound is at the heart of every GP 5000 tire. BlackChili blends synthetic and natural rubber with exceptionally fine carbon black particles, smaller than those used in conventional tire treads. These particles create a closer connection with the road surface while reducing deformation as the tire rolls. Less energy is lost through tire flex, so you roll faster without sacrificing grip. Developed and mixed in Korbach, BlackChili features in every tire in the GP 5000 range.

Vectran Breaker: puncture protection with polymer fibers

A protective layer of Vectran sits beneath the tread. This liquid-crystal polymer offers five times the tensile strength of steel at a fraction of the weight. More cut-resistant than aramid, Vectran helps prevent glass shards and sharp gravel from reaching the tire casing. The result is reliable puncture protection without a significant weight penalty. The AllSeason TR uses a thicker protective layer, while the TT TR keeps it deliberately thin to minimize weight.

Additional technologies:

  • Lazer Grip: Laser-textured shoulder sections provide extra grip when cornering at speed.
  • Active Comfort Technology: Absorbs vibrations directly within the tire casing.
