Oakley Sutro sports sunglasses – shield lens and Prizm contrast for every ride
Discover Oakley Sutro cycling glasses at BIKE24
The Oakley Sutro has changed the look of modern sports sunglasses: one continuous shield lens, clean edges, and a bold, wide frame. What began as a statement in urban cycling is now a familiar sight in the Tour de France peloton and on trails worldwide. The large shield lens gives you a wide peripheral view while protecting your eyes from wind and whatever else comes at you.
The Sutro series covers everything from fast road laps and long gravel stages to after-work trails. We stock seven models, from the classic Sutro through the semi-rimless Sutro Lite to the titanium Sutro TI.
Why choose the Oakley Sutro?
The Sutro is about more than its distinctive look.
- Wide field of view: the shield lens gives you extended peripheral vision.
- Prizm contrast: the tint brings out edges and changes in terrain rather than simply darkening your view.
- Matching replacement lenses: we stock replacement lenses for several Sutro models.
Oakley Sutro at a glance
Seven models, one design principle: your choice comes down to fit, frame concept and budget. If you have a narrower face, go for an S model; for wider faces, choose the standard size. If you want the unobstructed downward view, choose a Lite. Titanium marks the top of the range.
Oakley Sutro and Sutro S in the classic full-rim look
The Sutro is the original model in the range: an O Matter frame surrounds the lens completely, and it sits high on the nose. It stays stable under a helmet and makes a statement off the bike. The Sutro S keeps the same contour in a narrower size.
Oakley Sutro Lite, Sutro Lite S and Sutro Lite Sweep
On the Lite models the frame ends above the lens. Your downward view stays completely clear – especially useful in a low road riding position. The Sutro Lite keeps the familiar contour, the Lite S shrinks it. The Lite Sweep extends the lens upward at the sides for greater coverage.
Oakley Sutro TI and Sutro TI Sweep with a titanium frame
The TI models swap plastic for titanium. The slim bridge gives it a more understated look than the O Matter versions and works just as well off the bike. The Sutro TI follows the full-rim silhouette; the TI Sweep combines metal with the Sweep lens.
Oakley Sutro technologies and materials
Every Sutro model is built around the same core optical technologies. Oakley uses Plutonite as the lens material, Prizm lens technology to enhance color and contrast, and HDO to correct the curvature. The plastic models use O Matter as the frame material, while the TI models have a titanium frame. Depending on the model, Unobtainium improves grip at the nosepads and earsocks.
Oakley Sutro Prizm lenses – contrast where it counts
Prizm is not an ordinary color filter. It selectively tunes colors to improve contrast and color perception, making details easier to see. Prizm Road raises contrast on asphalt. Prizm Trail Torch brings out terrain detail and transitions in changing light. You see changes earlier, so you can react more quickly.
Plutonite and HDO – UV protection built into the lens
Plutonite is Oakley's own polycarbonate and the basis of every Sutro lens. The UV protection is built into the material, not applied as a coating: the lens completely filters out UVA and UVB radiation up to 400 nanometers. It also resists impacts from stones kicked up from the road. High Definition Optics corrects the curvature so the edge of the lens does not distort.
O Matter and Unobtainium – a light frame that grips when wet
The frame on the plastic models is made of O Matter, a lightweight frame material designed for greater strength and flexibility than conventional acetate. It holds the lens securely without putting it under tension, so the view stays undistorted even in heat. Depending on the model, Unobtainium is used at the nosepads and earsocks: this rubber becomes grippier when wet. The more you sweat, the more securely the glasses stay in place.

Frequently asked questions about the Oakley Sutro
Which Oakley Sutro glasses suit a narrow face?
Go for the S models. The Sutro S and Sutro Lite S take the basic shape of the standard models in a smaller size and are designed for smaller faces. If the standard Sutro feels too wide, start with these. Our team can help if you're unsure.
Which replacement lenses are available for the Oakley Sutro?
We stock dedicated replacement lenses for the Sutro, Sutro S, Sutro Lite, Sutro Lite S and Sutro Lite Sweep. Check the model name, because not all lenses are interchangeable: replacement lenses for the Sutro Lite and Sutro Lite Sweep are compatible with each other. Prizm tints for road and trail are available, along with clear and photochromic lenses.
Which Prizm tint suits road or trail riding?
Prizm Road and Prizm Road Black are tuned for asphalt and make changes in the road surface easier to see. Prizm Trail Torch works in changing light and shade. For bright sun, choose Prizm 24K or Prizm Black. For dusk, reach for Prizm Low Light or a photochromic lens.
