Discover the Schwalbe Thunder Burt at BIKE24

The Schwalbe Thunder Burt is the fastest MTB tire in the Schwalbe range and a clear choice for hard, dry cross-country courses. This folding tire sits in the top-tier Evolution Line. Its HS451 tread uses numerous small, low-profile knobs to minimize rolling resistance while providing plenty of biting edges on dusty hardpack. Picture the final climb of a marathon: your heart rate is maxed out and a washed-out gravel ramp lies ahead. Every watt saved counts when your tires keep rolling instead of holding you back. The Thunder Burt is made for racers on cross-country bikes chasing their fastest times. Choose SuperRace with Transparent Skin for race day or SuperGround with E-25 approval for everything leading up to it.

Why choose the Schwalbe Thunder Burt?

Three features deliver the speed and control you need on fast XC courses.

  • Minimal rolling resistance: The low-profile HS451 tread and ADDIX Speed compound keep friction to a minimum.
  • Hardpack grip: Numerous fine edges provide traction specifically on hard surfaces.
  • Available at BIKE24: SuperRace and SuperGround tires come in several 29-inch widths.

Schwalbe Thunder Burt tires at a glance

Your choice comes down to how much puncture protection you need and which bike you ride. SuperRace sheds material in pursuit of maximum race-day speed. SuperGround adds bead-to-bead fabric for extra protection and is also approved for pedelecs up to 25 km/h.

Schwalbe Thunder Burt SuperRace with Transparent Skin

SuperRace is built for race day. Its Wide Turn-Up construction combines bead-to-bead fabric with a RaceGuard layer for puncture protection without a stiff casing. At 67 TPI, the tire conforms to small surface irregularities. The beige Transparent Skin sidewall puts the casing construction on display.

Schwalbe Thunder Burt SuperGround with E-25 approval

SuperGround is the more versatile casing. Additional bead-to-bead fabric increases cut protection at the sidewalls, backed up by SnakeSkin. This makes the tire suitable for MTB hardtails and mid-travel bikes. E-25 approval covers pedelecs with assistance up to 25 km/h.

Schwalbe Thunder Burt in 2.1, 2.25 and 2.35 inches

Width affects the contact patch and ride feel. At 2.1 inches, you get the narrowest available option, while 2.25 and 2.35 inches provide greater nominal width. At BIKE24, the 2.35-inch tire is listed in both SuperRace and SuperGround versions.

Schwalbe Thunder Burt technologies

The Thunder Burt gets its speed from the combination of tread and rubber compound, with Tubeless Easy adding tubeless compatibility. The HS451 tread determines where the tire finds traction, while ADDIX Speed keeps rolling resistance to a minimum.

Schwalbe Thunder Burt HS451 tread

Instead of tall blocks, Schwalbe uses numerous small, closely spaced, low-profile knobs designed for fast, quiet rolling. The tread is packed with biting edges for traction on dusty hardpack, while more pronounced shoulder knobs take over through corners.

Schwalbe Thunder Burt ADDIX Speed

ADDIX Speed is Schwalbe's fastest MTB compound. Developed for XC specialists, it combines minimal rolling resistance with high durability, damping and grip.

Schwalbe Thunder Burt Tubeless Easy

Tubeless Easy, or TLE, comes standard on all Evolution Line MTB tires. Schwalbe uses a monofilament sidewall fabric for greater cut and puncture resistance than conventional fabric while making tubeless setup easier. In practice, that means less hassle with the compressor. TLE tires are generally compatible with hooked and ETRTO-compliant hookless rims, provided the tire width and pressure meet the rim manufacturer's specifications.
